Alan West, Civil War historian and author, discusses the influence of the UK on the American Civil War, with additional commentary by veteran journalist, author and historian Len Barcousky.
"John Bull & Brother Jonathan: Great Britain During the American Civil War" addresses British opinions, motivations, and political influences during the American Civil War. The presentation will use cartoons, newspaper reports, writings and photographs of the period to examine the positions undertaken by the North and South regarding British involvement in the war, how the U.S. and Britain almost came to blows, and their relationship following the war.
